UPOU-FMDS Explores Partnership with DILG-LGA for Enhanced Local Governance Capacities

Dr. Joane Serrano, the Dean of the University of the Philippines Open University Faculty of Management and Development Studies (UPOU-FMDS) welcomed the Department of Interior and Local Government Local Government Academy (DILG-LGA) in a meeting on 7 December 2023 at the Oblation Hall, UP Open University, Los Baños, Laguna  to pave the way for their upcoming official partnership.

Dean Serrano was joined byDr. Leo Mendel Rosario, Program Chair of the Diploma in/Master of Research and Development  Management; Ms. Margaret Jarmin-Suarez, UPOU Program Development Associate for Institutional Linkages; Mr. Larry Cruz, FMDS Program Development Associate for Continuing Education Program and Ms. Dona Lyn Piamonte, FMDS Linkages staff.

On the LGA’s side, Ms. Leah Marie C. Sanchez, Chief of the Research and Policy Development Division (RPDD) was supported by Mr. Euly Q. Enrique, RPDD Assistant Chief, and a team of valuable members including Mr. Kelvin Joseph B. Mendoza, Mr. Christopher S. Liarenas, Mr. Jason Patrick N. Carreras, Ms. Roselle A. Buenaventura, and Mr. Richard Emmanuel T. Sanchez.

The agenda encompassed vital areas of potential collaboration, spanning research partnerships, mentoring, program development, creation of educational resources, course development, and specialized training for LGA personnel. This partnership symbolizes the commitment of both the UPOU-FMDS and LGA to nurturing sustainable and efficient local governance practices, ultimately benefiting Filipino communities.
