UPOU Holds Forum on Creative Entrepreneurship in the Digital Age

Creatives are now gaining traction in the digital spac, creating innovative business models and reaching far more suppliers and customers than their traditional counterparts. To understand their entrepreneurial environment, the UP Open University (UPOU) Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS) invited a leading industry player to discuss the challenges and opportunities of digital entrepreneurship in its latest Let’s Talk it Over (LTiO) episode.

UPLB Alumni and Chief Playmaker of Balaiwari Immersive & Gaming Experiences, Gian Carlo de Jesus, headlines the episode on Creative Entrepreneurship in the Digital Space. De Jesus shared his experiences and knowledge on creating profitable and sustainable enterprises that call on the entrepreneur’s creative and ingenious talents in this digital world. He said that today is the Creative Era of the Philippines. Creatives can already launch their businesses through various channels and using the internet. Despite having big competitors in the industry, there are still opportunities for small businesses to penetrate by innovating in areas that big firms cannot do, like personalized services and customized products. He ended his talk by encouraging the next generation of creatives to just start – start learning, start creating, and start launching.

Ms. Noreen Diane Alazada, FMDS Staff member, facilitated the episode. Assoc. Prof. Finalor Taylan, Dean of UPOU FMDS,  and Asst. Prof. Trisha Ascan, Program Chair of the Associate of Arts in Digital Entrepreneurship,  gave the welcoming and closing messages, respectively. This LTiO’s episode was aimed at raising awareness about the opportunities and latest trends in the field of creative entrepreneurship. It was held on 20 March 2025 via Zoom, with more than 370 participants.
