UPOU’s Sustainable Institution Building for Open Learning (SIBOL) program under the European Union-funded “Advancing Equity and Access to Higher Education through Open and Distance Learning” or BUKA project, hosted a forum on Technology-enhanced Teaching and Learning in Higher Education on 7 February 2023 at the CCDL Building at the UPOU headquarters in Los Baños, Laguna. 

Resource persons from the BUKA partner institutions discussed macro trends, institutional cases, and initiatives for improving higher education through blended, open and online learning, in particular use of learning analytics to support learners, AI (artificial intelligence)-powered technologies and practices, offline and low technology options for distance learning, professional development for higher education faculty, and skills-based learning and microcredentials. The BUKA partner institutions are: Tampere University of Applied Sciences (Finland), Universitas Negeri Padang and Universitas Terbuka (Indonesia), Dublin City University (Ireland), Open University of Malaysia and Wawasan Open University (Malaysia), and  Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology and UP Open University (Philippines).

SIBOL aims to provide training and mentoring in planning, managing, and sustaining blended, online, and open learning (BOL) programs to Philippine higher education institutions (HEIs).

Around 50 academics from HEIs in Batangas, Manila, Laguna, and Quezon City attended the forum onsite, and 148 academics from 15 institutions nationwide attended the forum virtually (via Zoom). 

The forum was the culminating activity of the BUKA partners’ meeting in the Philippines held on 2-7 February 2023.
