UPOU Participates in AUN-QA International Conference 2024

The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) participated in the ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) International Conference 2024 held from 11 to 12 December 2024 at Ton Duc Thang University in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. With the theme “Innovating ASEAN Higher Education: Embracing AI Integration, Database Utilization, and Future-Ready Quality Culture,” the conference gathered higher education institutions and quality assurance professionals from across the ASEAN region to explore advancements in ensuring and improving the quality of education.

Representing UPOU at the event were:

  • Asst. Prof. Joel De Castro, PDA for Information Systems Development and QA Officer of the Faculty of Education
  • Ms. Yasele Irene Angela Yambao, QA Officer of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
  • Mr. Michael Lagaya, QA Officer of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration
  • Asst. Prof. Emely Amoloza, QA Officer of the Faculty of Information and Communication Studies
  • Asst. Prof. Ria Valerie Cabanes, QA Officer of the Faculty of Management and Development Studies
  • Assoc. Prof. Finaflor Taylan, Director of the Office of Gender Concerns
  • Ms. Maelyn Pisueña, University Research Associate of the Quality Assurance Office

The conference highlighted emerging trends, including integrating artificial intelligence and data systems in quality assurance and developing a forward-thinking quality culture in ASEAN higher education. UPOU’s participation emphasized the university’s dedication to staying informed about regional initiatives and advancements in quality assurance.

The AUN-QA International Conference serves as an important platform for fostering collaboration and sharing best practices among higher education institutions in the region. UPOU’s involvement underscores its ongoing efforts to strengthen its quality assurance framework and uphold its mission of providing accessible and excellent education.

LOOK: Dr. Emely Amoloza and Ms. Joy Abigail Rebulanan represents the UP Open University (UPOU) in receiving the Gold Award at the awarding ceremony of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Laguna Chapter today, 25 July 2025, in Santa Rosa City, Laguna. The event is part of PRC's Blood Donor's Month celebration, in recognition of people and organizations who have voluntarily organized and given blood to save the lives of those in need.UPOU has been organizing a yearly blood donation drive in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross Laguna Chapter since 2012.
