UPOU Promotes MOOCs and Its Flexible Learning in FEBC Radio Interview

On 27 January 2024, Dr. Myra Almodiel, UP Open University (UPOU) Office of Public Affairs (OPA) Director, joined Mr. Bryan Dela Cruz on 702 DZAS – Far East Broadcasting Company (FEBC) Radio for a live interview to discuss UPOU’s approach in online and distance elearning. 

With the UPOU’s mandate to provide accessible and flexible education in its “learn anytime, anywhere” model, Dr. Almodiel highlighted the university’s self-paced learning environment, enabling students to pursue education during their free time, accommodating various schedules and professions. 

The discussion underscored UPOU’s open and inclusive offerings, including Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and degree programs, which are accessible to learners across the globe. Dr. Almodiel explained how these programs cater to individuals from different time zones, making education achievable for those with limited time and unconventional schedules.

Mr. Bryan Dela Cruz, FEBC host and UPOU Master of Development Communication (MDC) student, shared his personal experience of balancing work and studies and praised UPOU for fostering discipline and independence.

When asked about student engagement, Dr. Almodiel mentioned UPOU’s methods for ensuring interaction between students and professors through the use of online classrooms, collaborative activities, and group work that encourages communication and active participation among learners. UPOU also provides comprehensive digital resources to support its students’ educational journey.

Dr. Almodiel further discussed the university’s offerings, including 38 degree programs and a variety of short courses. She also addressed the qualifications for free tuition and undergraduate admissions, highlighting UPOU’s commitment to making quality education accessible. In addition, Dr. Almodiel emphasized the openness of UPOU’s free courses to learners of any nationality and shared on the registration process for MOOCs, encouraging anyone interested in lifelong learning to explore these opportunities.
