Call for Nomination for Next FED Dean

The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU), through the duly constituted Search Committee, has officially opened the Call for Nominations for the next Dean of the Faculty of Education (FEd).

Issued on 15 December 2025, the call invites nominations from across and beyond the UP community, underscoring UPOU’s commitment to a transparent, participatory, and merit-based leadership selection process. The Search Committee is chaired by Prof. Melinda dela Peña Bandalaria and includes representatives from the faculty, REPS, administrative staff, students, and the Office of the UP President.

Who May Be Nominated and Who May Nominate

Nominees for the deanship must meet the minimum qualifications prescribed by University guidelines, including Filipino citizenship, strong academic credentials aligned with the Faculty’s disciplines, proven leadership and managerial capability, commitment to academic freedom and UP values, and willingness to serve. While nominees need not be faculty members at the time of nomination, appointment to the post requires a faculty appointment.

Nominations may be submitted by faculty and non-faculty personnel, students, alumni, and other stakeholders, individually or by group. Interested candidates may also nominate themselves, and the Search Committee may actively seek qualified nominees.

Submission Requirements and Deadline

Required nomination documents include proof of Filipino citizenship, a signed nomination letter with the nominee’s conforme, the nominee’s curriculum vitae with a 2–3-page summary, and a statement of plans and flagship programs for the Faculty of Education. Soft copies of the documents must be submitted via email, while hard copies should be addressed to the Search Committee through the Office of the Chancellor.

The deadline for online submission is 2 January 2026 at 11:59 PM, while physical documents must be submitted by 5:00 PM on the same day.

Schedule of Activities

Following the nomination period, the Search Committee has scheduled a series of public forums, multisectoral consultations, and interviews to allow the UPOU community to engage with the process. These activities include a public forum on the accomplishments of the incumbent dean, presentations of nominees’ plans and priority programs, and consultations with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and other stakeholders. The Search Committee is set to submit its report to the Chancellor on 14 January 2026.

Through this call, UPOU reaffirms its dedication to shared governance and inclusive decision-making in shaping the future leadership of the Faculty of Education.
