A UP Open University (UPOU) student bagged the grand prize in the Springer Nature Online Quiz. Mr. Stephen Jae Fontanilla, student of the Master of ASEAN Studies (MAS) of the Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS), bested all participants in the University of the Philippines (UP) System-wide online quiz.

Springer Nature is a world leading research, educational and professional publisher. It is responsible for the Springer Journal, an online library which provides researchers with access to millions of scientific documents from journals, books, series, protocols, reference works and proceedings. Springer Nature, through LibTech Source Philippines, partnered with the UP System for the Springer Nature Online Quiz. The online quiz is open to members of the eight constituent units of the UP System. It ran from 17 May until 17 June 2021. Participants of the quiz were asked to explore the content on SpringerLink and answer the five questions correctly.

The winners were announced during the “Show and Tell: The University Library Online Resources Midyear Report” held on 8-9 July 2021. All winners were notified via email. Aside from Mr.  Fontanilla, two more UPOU students were awarded consolation prizes, namely Ms. Rose Frances Molas, a Master of Public Management (MPM) student of FMDS and Mr. Nino Naldoza, a Graduate Certificate in Distance Education (GCDE) student of the Faculty of Education. The winners received Springer Nature items for participating in the online quiz.
