“Addressing the COVID-19 Infodemic: Straight from the Experts” will be held on 30 March 2021

The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU), as a member and the current President of the Los Baños Science Community Foundation Inc. (LBSCFI), is one with the science community in celebrating its 20th Anniversary this March.

The anniversary carries the theme “Los Banos Science Community: Coping with the COVID-19 Pandemic.” In celebration of this, a webinar titled “Addressing the COVID-19 Infodemic: Straight from the Experts” will be held on 30 March 2021 via Zoom and live via the LBSCFI Facebook Page. Dr. Melinda dela Peña Bandalaria, UPOU Chancellor, will deliver the welcome remarks as President of the organization.

Through this webinar, LBSCFI seeks to combat the amount of misinformation plaguing the internet which causes uncertainty and panic among the public. The webinar also intends to create a platform that focuses on the status, updates, and plans of the local government of Los Banos in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic, while also promoting a discussion about the vaccines that are available and approved for use.

Another event that will be held in celebration of the LBSCFI anniversary is the “Spoken Word Poetry” contest.

Another event that will be held in celebration of the LBSCFI anniversary is the “Spoken Word Poetry” contest, which is an effort of the science community to celebrate and appreciate the arts as well.
