UPOU to Lead Los Baños Science Community Again the the Next Two Years

The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) has been elected as President once again by 24 member-agencies of the Los Baños Science Community Foundation, Inc. (LBSCFI). 

Los Baños Science Community Foundation, Inc. (LBSCFI) met for its Second Quarter Steering Committee Meeting at the UP Open University Headquarters in Los Baños, Laguna. Dr. Melinda dela Peña Bandalaria, UPOU Chancellor and current President of LBSCFI, presided over the meeting. The LBSCFI held the election for its new Board of Trustees members and UP Open University has been elected as President once again. UPOU will serve another term to lead LBSCFI from 01 August 2022 – 31 July 2024.

The rest of the elected Board of Trustees of LBSCFI from 2022 to 2024 are as follows: the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) as Vice President; the Philippine Council for Agriculture; Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD) as Secretary; and the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) as treasurer. Other members of the BOT include the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), Department of Science and Technology – Region IVA (DOST IV-A), Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (ERDB), Forest Products Research and Development Institute (FPRDI), and the Local Government Unit of Los Baños (LGU-LB).

The representative of UPOU to the Los Baños Science Community Foundation, Inc. (LBSCFI) Steering and Working Committees from July 1, 2022 to June 31, 2023 are Ms. Margaret Jarmin-Suarez for the Steering Committee (Permanent Representative) and Wonderama Committee, Dr. Ricardo T. Bagarinao for the Education Sector, Ms. Anna Cañas-Llamas for the Information Committee, Dr. Consuelo DL. Habito for the Tourism Committee, Dr. Roberto B. Figueroa, Jr., for the Technology Forum Committee, and Dr. Myra D. Oruga for the R&D Awards.

LBSCFI is an organization of 24 government and private agencies based in Los Baños, Laguna, with a common goal of uplifting lives through science and technology.

Strengthen disaster readiness!DRR-CCAM Committee Meets to Strengthen University ReadinessChancellor Joane Serrano led the meeting on Disaster Risk Reduction–Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (DRR-CCAM), which focused on providing updates and facilitating the turnover to the new committee leadership. The discussion highlighted the urgency of strengthening the University’s earthquake response, including implementing new protocols, warning systems, and a comprehensive crisis communication plan. Incident Commanders were designated, and a proposal was raised to convert the former QA Office at the UPOU Main Building into a clinic to enhance medical readiness.
