The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) hosted a benchmark meeting on 4 April 2024, for officials from Guimaras State University (GSU) at the UPOU Headquarters. 

The GSU delegation, led by Dr. Ruby D. Catalan, Director of GSU Open University, aimed to learn from UPOU’s expertise in online and distance eLearning, including UPOU structures and delivery of its online courses. The meeting also explored potential collaboration between the two universities.

The benchmark presentation was led by Dr. Myra C. Almodiel, Director of the Office of Public Affairs (OPA). Joining her were Asst. Professor Mari Anjeli Crisanto, Director of the Quality Assurance Office (QAO), and Ms. Margaret Jarmin-Suarez, Program Development Associate for Institutional Linkages. After the meeting, Mr. Lexter Mangubat, Deputy Director for the Center for Open and Digital Teaching and Learning (CODTL) Educational Media Production (EMP), provided a tour of the university’s multimedia production facilities.

The GSU delegation also included Dr. Erly M. Martir, Dean of the Graduate School, and Dr. Simeon Cainday II, Coordinator of External Linkages.

This visit aligns with UPOU’s commitment under RA 10650, the Open Distance Learning Law, and its support for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4 and 17. UPOU actively fosters partnerships with various institutions to make quality education accessible to a wider range of learners, promoting collaboration and progress in the educational landscape.
