The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) hosted a benchmark meeting today, 6 June 2023 at its headquarters in Los Baños, Laguna, welcoming officials from the Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST).

Led by Dr. Rhodora R. Jugo, Vice President for Academic Affairs, the NEUST delegation engaged in discussions with UPOU officials, focusing on various aspects of UPOU’s implementation of open and distance eLearning. The benchmarking session covered topics such as learning design, technical management, student support, UPOU’s organizational structure, and other relevant practices. UPOU Chancellor, Dr. Melinda dela Peña Bandalaria, spearheaded the meeting, accompanied by key UPOU officials including Dr. Myra C. Almodiel, Director of the UPOU Office of Public Affairs (OPA), Dr. Ricardo T. Bagarinao, Director of the Center for Open and Digital Teaching and Learning (CODTL), and Asst. Prof. Mari Anjeli L. Crisanto, Director of the Quality Assurance Office.

Representing NEUST were Dr. Nancy Joy M. Mangansat, Director of Curriculum Development and Evaluation; Dr. Marlon I. Torres, Director of the Management Information System; and Dr. Arnold P. Dela Cruz, Dean of the College of Information and Communications Technology.

UPOU’s commitment to its mandate under RA 10650, known as the “Open Distance Learning Law,” aligns with its initiatives to contribute to Sustainable Development Goals 4 and 17. As part of these efforts, UPOU actively collaborates with different organizations and institutions, employing relevant mechanisms and supporting services to ensure equitable access to quality education.
