The Faculty of Education (FEd) at the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) held the first installment of its training workshop series entitled, “Enhancing teaching and learning experiences in ODeL environment” on 27 July 2023 at the MC Theatre, UPOU DICT Building in Diliman, Quezon City and via Zoom. This hybrid event with the title, “(Re)Exploring the features of MyPortal and Online Submission of Grades (OSG),” was conducted in partnership with the UPOU Information and Communication Technology Development Office (ICTDO). A total of 25 FEd Program Chairs, Faculties-In-Charge (FICs), and academic support staff actively participated in this hybrid event.

The training workshop kickstarted with an opening remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Assistant Professor Charisse T. Reyes, who emphasized the need to continuously innovate and adapt to the ever-changing landscape of technological advancements especially in the ODeL delivery of the unit’s academic programs. The workshop was led by the Director of UPOU Information and Communications Technology Development Office, Dr. Reinald Adrian Pugoy and his teammates, Mr. Melvir Nathaniel Paras (Junior ICT Associate) and Mr. Joshua David Sta. Rita (IT Security Specialist).

The workshop aimed at reorienting the FEd teaching staff onto basic and advanced features of MyPortal, the University’s Moodle-based learning management system as well as the recent developments in the Online Submission of Grades feature of the Academic Information Management Systems (AIMS).

In the succeeding months, the UPOU Faculty of Education is set to deliver more training-workshops to maximize the potentials and address the challenges arising from the ODeL delivery of its academic programs.

The IFSS 2025 formally concluded with a meaningful closing ceremony.UPOU Assoc. Prof. Finaflor F. Taylan, DProfSt, Chair of the IFSS 2025 Program Committee, delivered a synthesis of the forum, emphasizing the values aligned with the discussion areas of the IFSS2025. She ended with a call to continually act together for justice, for regeneration, for a future where everyone has just not food, but dignity, health, and the opportunity thrive.An exchange of institutional gifts was held among the representatives from UPOU, DOST, TUPV, STI West Negros University, and Negros Power.Certificates of participation were awarded to all participants of IFSS 2025.The Best Paper Award was conferred by Dr. Gerome Salas, member of the IFSS 2025 Paper Committee to the following winners:- Arwen Jover, Joval Martinez, Aran Jay Nonato, Raezel Harvey Pitong, and Angel Hope Robles with their paper entitled “Functional Characterization of Potassium Solubilization Potential of Hot Spring-Derived Thermophilic Bacteria for Sustainable Agricultural Biofertilizer Development."
