SEPLS Webinar 7 Preliminary Assessment of Flora-Fauna Assemblages in Satoyama-Satoumi landscapes in Butuan City

Revitalizing Socioecological Production Landscapes and Seascapes (SEPLS) Webinar Series is an online activity by Project 1 of the Emerging Interdisciplinary Research (EIDR), Building Climate Smart Communities (bSMART) Program implemented by UP Open University and UP Los Baños. This Webinar aims to raise awareness of the conservation and sustainable use of SEPLS, anchored by the Satoyama-Satoumi principle of “Living in harmony with nature”, through a series of online talks from speakers and experts on sustainable landscapes/seascapes management approaches.

Project 1 of the EIDR bSMART Program invites you to the upcoming webinar on 29 September 2022 (Thursday)  at 10:00 AM  via Zoom. Our speaker and the program Field Supervisor, Dr. Jess Jumawan of Caraga State University, will present the findings at the satoyama-satoumi site in Butuan City. His presentation is entitled, “Preliminary Assessment of Flora-Fauna Assemblages in Satoyama-Satoumi landscapes in Butuan City”. We are also honored to have Dr. Dixon Gevaña of the University of the Philippines Los Baños to be our guest discussant.

A meaningful close to the JSFP TourThe Japanese Speakers' Forum in the Philippines (JSFP) Tour concluded on 29 October 2025 with the presentation of video outputs created by student delegates, showcasing the insights and experiences they gained throughout the four-day program. Teacher-facilitators and selected members of the Japan Foundation Manila (JFM), Kamenori Foundation, and UP Open University (UPOU) offered thoughtful questions and warm commendations for their impressive work. As part of the program, the students thoughtfully wrote and presented their sustainability pledges, reflecting on their commitment to a greener future.Earlier in the tour, participants explored various cultural and environmental landmarks. After the opening program on Day 1, Day 2 included a visit to Paete, Laguna, followed by a film screening of A Thousand Forests at the UPOU Academic Residences.
