Webinar #71

September 24, 2021

“Ana nga ba ang COVID-19 Booster Shots

Special Topic

Ano nga ba ang booster?

Booster shots for COVID-19 is in the news daily.  What do we know about booster shots?  Should we be receiving additional doses of COVID-19 vaccines? How long can the current vaccines provide us with immunity against severe disease and hospitalization? Are all the current vaccines providing adequate protection against the Delta variant?

In this episode of STOP COVID DEATHS, we will take a closer look at the science behind giving a series of vaccinations to protect people from viral infections, including COVID-19. We will discuss the evidence supporting additional doses for COVID-19.  We will also discuss WHO’s broader concerns about vaccine equity and why it is important for making sure that all people in the world receive at least one vaccine.

The panel will be led by Dr. Nina Gloriani, former dean of UP College of Public Health and currently Chair of the Vaccine Expert Committee. A presentation on epidemiology will be made by Dr. Marie Carmela Lapitan.  Director-General, FDA – Dr. Eric Domingo will talk about the regulatory processes for ensuring that an additional dose is safe and appropriate.  Infectious disease specialist Dr. Sonia Salamat will share her views on boosters and the variants. Synthesis and Closing Remarks will be given by Dean Charlotte Chiong of the UP College of Medicine.
