ACTS OF KINDNESS, GENEROSITY, AND SACRIFICE IN PAG-AALAY webXHIBITION & FESTIVAL

The University of the Philippines will showcase the acts of kindness, generosity, and sacrifice of our everyday heroes through the eyes of our filmmakers, communicators, and multimedia artists during the Pag-aalay  webXhibition & Festival Awards Ceremony on February 28, 2021 (Sunday) at 6pm (Manila Time) via livestreaming on the TVUP YouTube Channel as well as Facebook Live on the TVUP Facebook Page.

The Pag-aalay webXhibition and Festival is an online festival of short videos in the categories of Narrative, Animation, Experimental, Documentary, and Music Video, that celebrate the various acts of kindness, generosity, and sacrifice that everyday Filipinos selflessly give, extend, and share to fellow Filipinos in need during this challenging time of the pandemic. The festival received an overwhelming response with various entries that focused on the theme “Pag-aalay sa Panahon ng Pandemya”.   Aside from the video categories, there is also a special award, the “Chooks-To-Go People’s Choice Award,” which is the video entry that has garnered the most votes during the Festival Showcase.

“Committing these stories and experiences to film is not only to honor the subject’s heroism but also instill hope and determination in the filmmaker and the audiences it will reach. The global pandemic is a shared experience which no one can come out of unaffected,” explained U.P. President Danilo L. Concepcion about the festival.

The Board of Judges for the festival are comprised by National Artist for Music and Former Dean of the U.P. College of Music, Dr. Ramon Santos (Chair of the Board of Judges); U.P. Film Institute Professor and Member of the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino, Dr. Rolando Tolentino; Cinema Historian and faculty member and Academic Coordinator of the U.P. Film Institute, Assoc. Prof. Nick Deocampo; faculty member of the U.P. Film Institute and Director of the UP-CMC Office for Extension and External Relations, Asst. Prof. Roehl Jamon; and faculty member of the U.P. Film Institute and documentary filmmaker, Asst. Prof. Adjani Isabel Arumpac.

Winners will be presented the “Pag-aalay” trophies specially handcrafted by multi-talented U.P. artist and TVUP Executive Director Dr. Grace Javier Alfonso. The trophy presents two silver hands offering a world enveloped in katakataka leaves, the same plant sculpted at the base of the U.P. Oblation.
