International Academic Partnership. UP Open University (UPOU), headed by Chancellor Melinda dela Peña Bandalaria, together with Vice Chancellor for  Academic Affairs, Dr. Primo G. Garcia, and Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, Dr. Jean A. Saludadez, sealed its partnership with the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in a virtual Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Signing Ceremony on 22 June 2022. The UPOU Program Development Associate for International Linkages, Ms. Margaret Jarmin-Suarez, was also present to host the event at the UPOU Office of the Chancellor Conference Room at its headquarters in Los Baños, Laguna.

Also present are the officials from Universiti Sains Malaysia headed by  Prof. Dato Geospecializ, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic and International; Dr. Narimah Samat, Deputy Dean for Research, Innovation & Industry-Community Engagement; and Chemist Dr. Sumiyyah Sabar, School of Distance Education.

The universities will be exploring opportunities for cooperation on joint academic activities including research, training and seminar on Open and Distance e-Learning (ODeL), paper review and membership in Journal Editorial Boards, guest lectureship in different academic programs, membership in advisory panel/committee in doctoral degree, visiting Professorship Program, Academic and Administrative staff exchange program, and student exchange/joint postgraduate seminar.

This partnership is part of UPOU’s efforts to promote the Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education) and 17 (Partnership for the Goals). Proper safety protocols were observed during this event.
