On 8 August 1967, the ASEAN Declaration was signed in Bangkok, Thailand, marking the establishment of the Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN).![]()
Coming up with a declaration was not easy. According to Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Narciso Ramos, the father of President Fidel V. Ramos, the negotiations that preceded the signing of the Declaration “truly taxed the goodwill, the imagination, the patience and understanding of the five participating Ministers.”![]()
As we celebrate the 58th Anniversary of ASEAN, let’s take a look back at the historic moment that gave rise to one of the fastest growing regions in the world.![]()
