Webinar #84

January 21, 2022

“COVID-19 PEDIATRIC VACCINATION: Ready na ba tayo?

Special Topic

Around the world, countries are expanding vaccination against COVID-19 to include children. These include Italy, France, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Denmark, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Spain, Sweden and Finland.  Closer to home, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, South Korea, Australia and recently, the Philippines.

Early reports on the variant, Omicron, point to more cases among younger age groups, but this still needs further study. In some countries, concern about childhood infections of COVID-19 has prompted quick roll-out of vaccination programs for children.

In the Philippines, the FDA has approved the use of Pfizer BioNTech for children 5-11 years old.  Local governments, schools, parents and families are preparing for a possible implementation in February.

Frontline health workers play a key-role in preparing families for this next phase of protection for our children.

In this episode of STOP COVID DEATHS, Director Eric Tayag of the Department of Health will share the proposed plans of the government to vaccinate children against COVID-19.  Dr. Marimel Pagcatipunan will share insights on the clinical picture of COVID-19 in children — based on the PGH admissions.  This webinar is co-sponsored by the Pediatric Infectious Disease Society of the Philippines and welcomes all the members of PIDSP to our show.
