The University of Philippines Open University (UPOU) joined the international benchmarking consortium led by Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU) in the development of the Benchmarking Framework and Data Set for Online, Open, Smart, and Technology-Enhanced Higher Education. Open Education Week is celebrated every March of each year. The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) is one with the world in celebrating this event as part of its  advocacy for open education. This 2021, it will be held on 1 to 5 March 2021 and UPOU has lined up activities in celebration of Open Education Week 2021.
